MARVEL HILL: Simply the best rock music I have ever heard come out of Spain, like REM meets Pearl Jam, and then again fusing something totally enlightening and unique from the band’s stated vision of “four guys set on creating original material, inspired by eclectic modern and alternative rock of the last 30 years. “ Masterly marvelous. AMBIII and Real News Network began first and foremost as a home recording project – I used to call it Closet Rock – where the goal was to complete demos of the 75 or so songs I have written over the past two decades of my life.
Having a steady REAL job as a newspaper reporter/editor/blogger, etc., I realized that the true way to reach and build an audience for my music was through the Internet, a fully worldwide web of awaiting music fans and friends that has grown with each step I have taken to improve the sound and production of the music.
As a journalist, I see clearly that it is possible to reach as many people with my music now in one day as I can reach with the stories I edit each night, only the message has distinctly different audiences and entirely opposite intents and purposes. Truly, if I toured the country playing every dive bar on earth, I could not reach more creative friends and fans than I can in one week with connections on the Web.
By trial and error, experience and humble stumbling, I have found several keys to making great music, or at least passable Blog Rock, on my sites, RealNewsNet.Net, AngelosList.org, TheRealBlog, our Yahoo 360 site, our MySpace site, and now Facebook, too.
In the next several weeks I'd love to hear from others who have been doing their own recording and posting on the Web. What works for you, what doesn't?
First, I have found, you need a great place to store and present your music. For my money, which is not much, I have gone with ReverbNation, which I believe has the best artist showcase features and the most dependable media players out there. The Tune widgets give you several amazing choices to set up your songs, the downloading is easy, it manages all the stats on exposure, plays, and you can create banners or links to all the other great artists on the site.
We are thinking about updating our own look and features on the site now and would appreciate any advice or suggestions with how to make it better.
Lately, you can visit our home at ReverbNation and hear some of the new demos we're working on, including more of a roots-rocking sound with lyrics that truly have a bit of a bite to them. Technically, we have moved up to recording some live takes along with our digital studio recordings, and have been fiddling with a new M-Audio FastTrack Pro-Audio setup that has yet to have all the bugs worked out.
Sometimes it seems in the computer recording world, simple gear makes recording so much easier to accomplish, especially when the sole purpose is to truly present the soul and spirit of the song.
Simply put, the main thing I have learned in computer recording is just that – never let it take away from the soul and the spirit with which a song is born and blessed with from the beginning.
Hope you enjoy our latest tunes and then hop over to Angelo's List and visit some of the friends making great independent music around the Globe. Have a rockin' fine weekend; Peace and harmony, AMBIII

You could visit this site all day and find a maze of amazing music. Pine Radio: Such sweet sounds make you just want to take along drive down the coast listen to this Virginia band soothe your soul. Rich, lush, hopeful, wandering, majestic. Great music here. Husk: Wonderful rocking soul from Toronto, great vocals, tunes full of spirit, like maybe the Kinks meets Stray Cats. Rockabilly with funk and passion. Kim Kehl & Os Kurandieros: Hot rocking band with Stones-like riffs and kick-ass rhythm section from Brazil. Kick up your heels and prepare to rock away the day. Jackie Barnett: Amazing voice of angelic-like grace, Jackie's songs soar lyrically, thematically, musically. This is music to truly heal your soul. From Cambridge, England. The arrangements are impeccable. Inga Nova: From across the Puget Sound in lovely Port Orchard, comes this voice of pure beauty and lush intentions, singing songs of simple joy and inspiration. Every time I hear Inga sing, my spine tingles and my heart soars. Sasha Elyce: Multi-talented vocal beauty from Virginia, with a voice that can purr or howl and songs to get you off your ass and dancing to last the night or snuggling up with a bottle of Merlot in front of the fireplace. She can do jazz, rock, blues, even country. Paul Jeffery: Another independent voice of wise and soulful musical magic, with songs of depth and vision from the United Kingdom. Give him a listen, truly the type of creative friend we love to help promote here at Real News Network. The Sapiens: From Chicago, this alt-rocking band has a driving, tight sound and style and sass that reminds this listener of the best of early Elvis Costello, say "This Year's Girl" era or maybe even more, like the Jam. A joyride from one of our favorite musical places on this planet. The DFCs: Oh, we love the snarling voice of Marta Larsson, and the make-no-excuses sonic roar of this impressive band from London. Not for the feint of heart or the soulless. This week we also debut guest reviewer Mighty Casey, who will be contributing his own weekly selections to our list, and we are currently reviewing several others who would like to write for our page. Please keep reviews to no more than three or four sentences and include a link, preferably a MySpace page. Here's Casey's top picks this week, along with new connections to check out, too: Massy Ferguson: Listen to “Bent,” the first track on Massy’s self-titled EP, and it’ll be your new favorite song to sing on the drive home. (And, no, they’re not a country band.) The group recorded their five-song EP with Seattle producer Geoff Ott at London Bridge Studios (Pearl Jam, Blind Melon). They say the tracks are a perfect soundtrack to both a bar-room brawl and cross-country road trip. And they’re right. Korby Lenker: Korby Lenker is the best songwriter you’ve never heard of. The guy, who literally grew up in the shadow of the ramp Evel Knievel used attempting to jump the Snake River Canyon , took first place at the 2007 Chris Austin songwriting contest at Merlfest. His song “California Wine” made him a finalist for the 2008 International Songwriting Competition. His most under-rated record is “The Ghost of Whiteboy” Check out the third track “Goin’ Down to Nashville , Tenn. ” That is Lenker’s best song, and will be one of your favorites. Handful of Luvin’: Handful mixes the creative drumming style of Dispatch, a guitar technique similar to Keller Williams, Red Hot Chili Peppers-like bass lines, violin riffs better than Boyd Tinsley – all with a Northwest flavor. Songs such as “Take Me Home” and “Zephyr Cove Blues” make you wish it were summer all year long, so you could crank these tunes loud with flip-flops and a cold beer. The band also has killer stage presence, and their sound is reminiscent of Willis, the long-lost, yet much-celebrated Seattle band from the mid-to-late 90s. Some of our Favorite links: Flight of the Conchords: Bret and Jermaine were the best new rock comedy duo to come out of New Zealand since, well, . . . You get the picture about the funniest and freshest new HBO production now come to life via MySpace. Check out the live version of "She's So Hot (Boom) on stage with boys getting funky. We also love Murray the manager and can't wait for the next season! Paul Revere and the Raiders: One of the great 60's bands to come out of the great Pacific Northwest, with a sound and style far under-rated in the history of rock. The goofy Revolutionary War wear probably did them in, but I grew up on these guys on Where the Action Is, American Bandstand and the beauty of West Coast radio. Long live the Raiders! The Shins: Speaking of Northwest bands, the lush and wonderful Shins fuse together some of the greatest new melodies with an amazing post-psychedelic sound that seems to wash over you in waves. Pure joy from Portland. Kinski: Keeping with our Northwest connections, this special band from Seattle, makes truly thought-provoking music that will leave you enriched and enchanted. You will find purity in the magic that comes from the gifted hands, hearts and souls that paint Kinski's canvas of sound, just one more example why Seattle has some of the most fertile musical ground on this earth. Kidd Russell: Lyrically rich and uplifting in the themes that spin from this captivating hip hop voice from Chicago. Love the song, "Paradise," which is as good as anything we have heard this week. Look forward to much more to come. Nina: Her icon comes at you dancing, and her voice really comes from the soul, rocking, howling, destined to get you off your feet and dancing, rising and lifting. Out of New York and destined also for bigger things. Lindsey Buckingham: First saw Lindsey take the stage at the Paramount in about 1975 in his first appearance with Fleetwood Mac, and was stunned and amazed there in the ninth row to watch this new, unheard of virtuoso create a magic that lingers to this day. You know when you see something you will never forget, and I can still get chills thinking of watching him soar with "I'm so Afraid" or the opening riffs to "Rhiannon." This is a good place to visit his equally amazing solo work. Gnarls Barkley: Such great rockin soul music, like a blast back to the kind of music that played out of the radios across the nation during the pre-Disco/rap/hiphop progression that would take some of the joy out of true roots music. Time to get groovin again. Awesome! Black Rebel Motorcycle Club: This band has given me chills ever since Howl and I truly believe they are capable of being one of the most unique bands of their time, if not there already. Everything is complex, layered, bold, from the sound to the lyrics to the guitars as they interweave or hammer out tunes that drift together like reading the short stories of Camus spiced with the sass and sensibilities of the Clash. Space Bar: Here in Seattle we love the song, "SuperSonic Girl," with the Seattle Supersonics basketball team about to bolt town. This powerpop joyride from Helsinki, Finland, is our vote for this week's best of the independent artists we love to feature here. Show them some love on Valentine's week. DOMI: Great rock here, in the New Jersey tradition, powerful, confident, and this all came from the grace of the Internet where the vocalist and guitarist "crossed paged via an Internet posting." This is truly the kind of music project we love to feature and the music is absolutely amazing. La Jota: From the Domincan Republic and Puerto Rico via New York comes the smooth, hip-hop grooves of this Latin rapper. A great fusion of World beats and views and a welcome addition to our list of great global connections. Rod DeGeorge: Awesome fusion of guitar and mastery of musicianship from this member of the band Burnt Sienna. Everything is tight, perfect, soaring, some of the best rock/jazz/fusion we have heard on MySpace. From Reading, Pa. Kete Bowers: From London comes this great country-twinged voice and guitar player whose voice will welcome you in like an old friend about to tell you a heart-felt tale of depth and beauty. Give him a try and say hi! .BE A PART OF ANGELO'S LIST: If you'd like to be considered for our featured video page or want to help add, connect with and review new artists to Angelo's List, contact us at realnewsnet2003@yahoo.com. Obscure Beauty: From the wilds of Caldwell, Idaho, comes this howling, growling heavyweight rock group to blast sonic mania into your home. Check out "My Song For Life," words and music to truly live by. Youna: Sweet, rich voice with equally sweet songs, this well-traveled woman (now living in Bangkok and born in Belgium) is simply a delight through and through. Abraham Cloud: From Los Angeles, with songs of wry satire and raw nerve, a voice of wise emotion and a heart like Warren Zevon or Randy Newman at his best. Fun stories from the wasteland of the autocratic culture that consumes everything in its numbered, numbing path. Renee Cassar: Her voice just makes you want to smile and bask in the glow of her feisty spirit. From Australia, with songs of rocking sass and powerful production to highlight the vocal chords of a true angel. Power pop at its best and loads of promise in this dream intended. Abril Y Me Odias: Awesome rockers of total depth and passion, great production, and this all comes to us from the first band to connect from Mexico. Kind of like a Spanish Rage Against the Machine. Carrie Ackre: An amazing original voice from the Emerald City, she always sends shivers down your spine just to hear her songs soar into your senses. I can listen to Carrie all day and night long!!! From Nashville and headed for the big time, for sure. Joan Baez: The first lady of American folk music.
